College Planning Services

For Families With Younger Children
I work with families to plan for their child’s future by examining their current financial situation and projecting what their student will need for college. I calculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as of today so we have a place to start. Taking into account the number of years until your children are in college, how far you are from retirement and using a combination of investment vehicles, we put a sound financial blueprint in place for your children. We monitor it from year to year and as we get closer to high school, adjust the plan accordingly.

For Families With High School Students
I gather the family’s financial information and calculate the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) using the same exact factors that are used by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). I also provide an invaluable report (sample report) consisting of a side-by-side comparison of the schools that your child has chosen to apply to and what that looks like in terms of the family’s specific financial situation. We then build a step-by-step plan to pay for college and minimize any debt for the family. We review the plan year to year to make any necessary adjustments.

Financial Aid Forms Assistance
I help parents fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the College Scholarship Service Profile (CSS Profile). In addition, I answer questions about IDOC and explain the nuances on the forms based on each family’s situation. Once an offer of admission and financial aid has been made by the school, I help parents negotiate their financial aid offers, if necessary.
